California Ground Squirrels can be found in a plethora of habitats ranging from developed areas, grasslands, woodlands, and mountain elevations up to over 2,000 meters. Their brown fur is mixed with rust, white, and darker hues and is a lighter mustard brown on the underside. The California Ground Squirrels form burrows in the ground and in they hibernate in within colder climates.  They also store seeds, acorns, fruits, and other food in their cheek pouches to save.
