If you see a bird with a white head and black body in North America you are looking at a White-headed Woodpecker as they are the only bird with this characteristic in North America. Their jet black body contrast with their white head and red-orange dot on the peak of thier head. Living in coniferous forests, White-headed Woodpeckers eat the seeds out of pine cones and dig out insects from bark for food. Both male and female birds help to incubate the eggs taking shifts.
