As the smallest swift in North America, Vaux's Swifts can be spotted by their short and rectangular tail and dark gray coloration. They can be found hunting insects mid-flight in coniferous and mixed forests. The descent of the Vaux's Swifts is a sight to see as they all spiral down into their roost at dusk and roost communually conserving heat.
