When hunting Northern Harriers tend to hug the ground in a low flight to search for small mammals. These hawks use hearing as well as sight to detect prey and has a flat-circular face to direct sound to their ears. Breeding Northern Harriers can be found in dry upland habitats and in the winter, they can be found in low vegetation sites such as deserts, grasslands, and marshes. In courting, males will coreograph a sky "dancing" routine in shooting 1,000 feet off the ground.
