Mountain Chickadee

Poecile gambeli

Class

Aves

Order

passeriformes

Family

paridae

Genus

Poecile

The Mountain Chickadee gets its name from the call which sounds like they are saying chick-a-dee. The Mountain Chickadee is a small but plump bird with a petite beak to match its size. The black and white patterning on the head and grey body helps to camoflauge the birds within branches as they live mainly in forests and forage for insects and seeds within trees. As they spend most of their time foraging on branches they are very limber and agile.
