Hammond's Flycatcher

Empidonax hammondii

Class

Aves

Order

passeriformes

Family

tyrannidae

Genus

empidonax

Find a Hammond's Flycatcher perched high in a tree searching for an insect to chase and eat. Interestingly however, if they capture a moth, the birds will first remove the moth's wings before consuming. Their gray coloration looks as if it was painted on their feathers in small strokes with accidental brushes of white. Look out for Hammond's Flycatchers in coniferous or mixed fir and coniferous forests and along their migration path.
