The Golden Eagle gets its name from the gleaming gold feathers on the nape of its neck and is incredibly fast, and nimble. They are one of the largest raptors in North America and are able to kill large prey including domestic livestock. However, their dietary preference is mainly ground squirrels, hares, and rabbits. They have even been witnessed to kill seals, mountain goats, coyotes, and bobcats! Their territories can extend as far as 77 square miles and they typically build nests in cliffs or high spaces. They have even have been observed to dive in the air at speeds of 200 mile per hour!
