Gadwall

Anas strepera

Class

Aves

Order

Anseriformes

Family

anatidae

Genus

Mareca

Breeding male Gadwalls don't have the typical bright coloration of other dabbling ducks but are adorned with a gray, brown, and black pattern similar to female Gadwalls. A common feeding practice for Gadwalls is to steal plants from other ducks as they come to the surface and tend to find plants for food in deeper waters than other dabbling ducks.
