Under good lighting the intricate designs of the European Starling's feather are visible. Resembling oil on water when the sun hits it perfectly, the European Starling has an array of subtle metallic greens, reds, blues, and yellow somewhat hidden within the jet-black feathers. The birds can be seen in human developed areas searching for insects on the floor.
