PicioidesLooking similar to the closely related Hairy Woodpeckers, Downy Woodpeckers are black and white with a straight posture clinging onto tree limbs. Living in open woodlands and forests, you can find Downy Woodpeckers forgaging for pest insects within tree bark. They are highly mobile of the woodpeckers as they move horizontally and downwards on trees and can occasionally be found searching for food on the ground.
