Cooper's Hawks are incredible fliers with their ability to navigate dense tree cannopies at high speeds to chase prey. As their main prey is small to medium-sized birds it has been found that many of the Cooper Hawk's skeletons have recovered from head fractures most likely from pursuit of prey through trees. Mammals are also a part of the coopers hawk diet including mie, squirrels, bats, and hares. These birds can be found in woodland areas and even urban areas including the occasional backyard and neighborhoods.
