Found in dry open areas the Common Poorwill can be seen hunting for flying insects at night. Living in shrubby areas, their ash and white color pattern helps to camoflauge the birds along with their flat head and short tail. In times of cold weather, the Common Poorwill has the ability to slow down its metabolism and drop its body temperature entering in a hibernation-like stage for several weeks.
