One of the best ways to identify the Common Nighthawk is to listen first for their call. Common Nighthawks produce a very piercing, electric peent when flying overhead. Their long wings are emphasized by the bird's small head and slender body. The gray, white, brown, and black pattern help to camoflauge the nighthawks in wooded and wetland areas. They eat flying insects at dawn or dusk with thier hunting range anywhere from 500 feet in the sky or on the ground.
