This dabbling duck is found in North America and can be distinguished by its round head, small bill, and short neck. Breeding males have a bright green patch around its eyes and a white stripe reaching from the crown of its head to its beak. They live in open wetlands and graze or dabble for plant food. They are known to steal foraged food from other diving waterbirds.
