Dr. Thomas Smith

Assistant Research Biologist

As a community ecologist, I focus on how species interactions shape freshwater communities in Sierra Nevada lakes and ponds. My research topics include impacts of the amphibian chytrid fungus on endangered mountain yellow-legged frog populations, the challenges that disease and predation pose for frog restoration efforts (in collaboration with state and federal agencies), the consequences of frog declines on composition of vertebrate, invertebrate and algal communities, and other collaborative projects related to Sierra Nevada aquatic communities and ecosystems.
